Maya Gauri, MSW
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-esteem issues, or feeling disconnected from yourself, my approach begins with listening to your story and what matters most to you.
As a therapist with a Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University, I am deeply committed to creating a compassionate, non-judgmental space to explore clients’ inner and outer worlds. I believe everyone is the expert of their own experience. Together we will identify what feels important to you, build on your strengths, and work towards meaningful change.
I integrate evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and narrative therapy, woven together with mindfulness and somatic practices. Grounded in the mind-body connection, I work to understand where psychological and physiological experience intersect, supporting healing on multiple levels. I hold a deep awareness that each person's experience is shaped by their relationships, community, and the larger systems they move through — and I bring that understanding into our work together.
Our first session is a chance to get acquainted. I’ll ask questions to understand your history and what’s bringing you to therapy, while leaving space for you to share what feels most important. Together we’ll begin to identify what you’re hoping to get out of our work.
From there, sessions are guided by you. While I draw on a range of therapeutic tools and will offer structure when it’s helpful, I follow your lead on what needs attention each week. Some sessions may focus on a specific challenge you’re navigating, while others may be more reflective and exploratory. I value creating a space where clients feel deeply heard while also being gently challenged toward growth.
