Northwell Direct Is Your Employee Benefit - Here's What That Means

Northwell Direct is the health plan for people who work at Northwell Health - nurses, physicians, techs, and staff across its hospitals and practices - and for their dependents, including college-age children on a parent's plan. It's not a plan for Northwell patients. If Northwell Direct is your coverage, through your job or a family member's, psychotherapy with us is in-network.

In-network means no directory rabbit hole and no superbill paperwork: we bill Northwell Direct directly, and what you owe is whatever your plan says - typically a copay per session.

What you'll want to know from your plan:

Copay - a fixed amount per session (many plans).
Coinsurance - a percentage of the session fee (some plans).
Deductible - an amount you pay first on some plans before the copay/coinsurance kicks in.

I'm a Northwell patient - can I use Northwell Direct for therapy?
Northwell Direct is the health plan for Northwell Health employees and their dependents - including college-age children covered on a parent's plan - not a plan for patients. If Northwell Direct is your coverage, your therapy with us is in-network. If it isn't, you can still work with us - see the options below.
Does Northwell Direct cover therapy?
Northwell Direct plans cover outpatient psychotherapy with an in-network provider - you pay your plan's copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee. Plans differ, so we'll help you confirm your specific benefits during the free consult.
Will my employer know I'm in therapy?
Your therapy is confidential. Using your insurance means claims are processed by the plan, as with any medical care - but what you talk about in session stays between you and your psychotherapist, and we're an independent private practice, not part of Northwell.
Is virtual therapy covered?
Our sessions run virtually across New York State, and teletherapy is broadly covered by insurance plans today. We'll confirm how your specific plan handles virtual sessions when we verify your benefits.
What if I have Aetna instead?
We're in-network with Aetna too - see our Aetna coverage page for how that works.
What if I don't have Aetna or Northwell Direct?
You can still work with us. Intake sessions are $350 and individual sessions are $225-275 depending on the therapist's seniority. We provide monthly superbills for out-of-network reimbursement and keep a limited number of sliding-scale spots.

One of our psychotherapists, matched to what you're facing, your schedule, and your budget. You're not assigned to whoever has an opening - matching is the heart of how the practice works.
